Hanmi Bank: A Complete Web Presence and a 3-Site Solution
Business Problem
Hanmi Bank, the largest Korean-owned bank (http://www.hanmi.com),
was not leveraging their web presence as well as they could. The design
was several years old; the navigation was not intuitive, finding information
was difficult and usually required clicking several times before reaching
the desired information. There were also maintenance issues, the Content
Management System (CMS) was difficult to use; small changes were difficult
to implement. Hanmi also needed solutions beyond the external website
to their tired company intranet and www.drsohn.com,
the CEO’s website.
Also, because Hanmi Bank was Korean owned, there had to both and
English and Korean language version of the site.
Our Solution
After MindlinQ was asked to take a look at the problem, the design
and technical staff began analyzing the client’s needs and
began detailing the solution. On the design side, the information
architecture was overhauled. The content was organized into very
logical and intuitive categories. The design team was then able
to develop a streamlined navigation with a series of drop-down rollover
menus, allowing the user to easily navigate to the needed information.
After the organization of the site was completed, they designed
homepage and sub-page templates to give the site a uniform look.

On the technical side, a CMS was developed using ASP and SQL. Both
Korean and English language templates were created. A stylesheet
was developed to control the look of the text and other elements.
Editing each page could be done via WYSIWYG or HTML Code editors.
Through the CMS both technical and non-technical users can add,
edit or delete:
- Company and bank product information
- Press releases and related news items
- Bank branch location information including:
- Address, contact phone numbers, business hours
- Interactive map of the location using Google Maps
- If ATM services are available
- Management staff name and title
An additional “Feature Product” element was added to
allow for special promotions to be included on the site and feature
banners that would placed on pages to be linked to the featured
product page.
Because the CMS solution was flexible and dynamic, we were able
to use a similar CMS solution when constructing the company intranet
and the CEO website. In these solutions the technology was upgraded
to ASP.NET, but the functionality remained similar.
The end result was:
- A smoother navigation with all information no more than 2 clicks away
- A nimble CMS that allowed for near-instant changes
- quick and easy implementation of feature product campaigns
